Initial FEMA Information

FEMA Update 20110831 (53KB PDF, 2 pages)

This is an initial update that lets you know what to expect from FEMA – it provides some general information, advice, and a description of how the reimbursement process works.

Highlights include:

  • FEMA reimburses approximately 75% of the repair costs
  • There are three basic steps to the process: Preliminary Assessments, Presidential Funding, and Application (so you can’t apply just yet)
  • Start documenting and getting copies of paperwork now
  • Register as soon as you can – but you can’t complete the process until the Presidential Declaration of FEMA Funding (different from the disaster declaration)

The bottom line is that FEMA will help, but the process takes weeks and months, not days – manage your expectations accordingly.
