Towns, Businesses, and Organizations

Irene did enormous damage in some areas but very little in others.  This page is an attempt to quash rumors and provide information about the status of towns, businesses, and organizations near flooded areas.  Most businesses have now reopened; new updates are in bold.  If you have an update, please leave a comment or send it in!

Athens

  • Almost all roads reopened

Brattleboro

  • FEMA Disaster Recovery Center is in the Withington Skating Facility at Living Memorial Park

Brookline

  • Most roads now open

Dover

  • Community information meeting Today, September 6 at 5:00pm in the Dover school gym – Selectboard meeting to follow
  • Taste of the Deerfield Valley (scheduled for September 10) is cancelled

Dummerston

Grafton

  • Isolated damage, roadwork continues

Guilford

  • Isolated damage in west side of town, roadwork continues

Halifax

  • Halifax asks that people stay off the roads as much as possible to allow the road crews to work faster – if you must travel, please car pool.

Jamaica

  • Due to the ongoing road work, Jamaica asks that people please avoid the area until further notice
  • Emergency Operations Center based out of Three Mountain Inn

  • State Park – no damage, but closed until access road repaired

Londonderry

  • Public meeting Thursday, September 8 at 6:30pm at the Town Hall on Middletown Road

Marlboro

  • South Pond – water presumed contaminated, no swimming or fishing

Newfane

  • Road work continuing in northwest and southwest parts of town

Putney

  • No major damage, all businesses and organizations open as usual

Rockingham/Saxtons River/Bellows Falls

  • Little major damage, all businesses and organizations open as usual
  • Road work continuing on Saxtons River Rd and Williams Rd

Somerset

  • Some road damage (see maps), no further information

Stratton

  • Some road damage (see maps), no further information

Townshend

  • No major damage, most businesses and organizations open as usual
  • Leland and Gray: 7th grade starts Tuesday, grades 8-12 start Wednesday – school website

Vernon

  • No major damage, all businesses and organizations open as usual

Wardsboro

  • Due to road problems, school will not start until Monday, September 12  – school website

Westminster

  • Some road damage in the northeast corner of town, repairs continue

Whitingham

Wilmington

  • Road updates, references, and other info updated frequently on town website and VTRecovery.com
  • Passes are required for downtown access (issued at Peetee Memorial library)
  • Town offices are moving to the former Rite Aid next to Shaw’s – office will be open Wednesday from 8am to 5pm
  • Information open house with FEMA, SBA, SBDC, BDCC from 10am to 2pm at the Chamber of Commerce (currently at Split Ends)
  • Informational meeting with the Wilmington Selectboard in the TVHS gym 6-7 on Wednesday, September 7; a selectboard meeting will follow
  • Harriman Reservoir is closed due to floating hazards

Windham

  • Road work continuing, major roads reported clear
